Amy Muiderman
Amy Muiderman lived in the Northeast Chinese city of Yan Ji in 1988 through 1990 teaching English as a Second Language. She was introduced to the food, culture and people of this region during these two years. Amy worked hard to learn conversational Chinese so that she could shop in the open-air markets and travel around the country on trains independently. Since then, she has traveled to China three other times.
For the last twenty years Amy has been working as a chef - catering, teaching cooking classes and hosting private dinners in her home. She loves to learn about different cuisines often through travel. Most recently she spent a week learning Tuscan cooking in Massaciuccoli, Italy. In addition, she can cook Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Ethiopian, German, French, Spanish, Persian, Greek – skills learned through travel and experimentation in the kitchen.
Amy spent four years studying Chinese Literature and Philosophy at the University of Michigan. With this background she’ll be able to give insight into the history and culture of China and help with interpretation.
Amy is enthusiastic about sharing her knowledge and will avail you of all her experience to make this trip a rich experience.
