    We can book your airfare for you or you are welcome to book your own. We would like to work with you on your arrival and departure times so that we can best arrange for transfers to and from the airport. All flights will arrive at Edinburgh International Airport (EDI) and depart from London Heathrow (LHR).     Your pilgrimage begins! Depart the U.S. for the United Kingdom with anticipation and intention.

    Day 2: Thursday, July 30

    [Arrive in Edinburgh]

    Welcome to Edinburgh! We begin our journey with a walk through the historic heart of the city, visiting St. Giles’ Cathedral; an early stronghold of the Scottish Reformation and John Knox. This evening, we gather for a welcome dinner and orientation, reflecting on the seeds of reform in Scotland and England. Overnight accommodations are in the seaside town of Dunbar (L, D).

    Day 3: Friday, July 31

    [Edinburgh to Lindisfarne (Holy Island)]

    Traveling south along the scenic Northumberland coast, we arrive at the Holy Island of Lindisfarne, crossing by tide as ancient pilgrims once did. We settle into the peaceful rhythm of island life. This evening, we gather for reflection within the beauty of Lindisfarne Priory, a cradle of early English Christianity. Overnight accommodations are at the Manor House on Lindisfarne (B, L, D).

    Day 4: Saturday, August 1

    We spend the day exploring Lindisfarne’s sacred sites, including the priory ruins, Lindisfarne Castle, and Cuthbert’s Island. As we explore, we are invited to deepen our understanding of Celtic mission and monastic life. The island’s stillness invites us into deeper prayer and presence. Overnight accommodations are at the Manor House on Lindisfarne (B, L, D).

    Day 5: Sunday, August 2

    [Lindisfarne, Jarrow, Durham]

    We begin the day with a prayerful walk across the tidal flats. Once across, we visit the Jarrow Monastery of the Venerable Bede, whose writings shaped the memory of the English Church. At Jarrow Hall Museum, we view relics from this important site. We then continue to Durham and close the day in reflection. Overnight accommodations are at the Premier Inn Durham City Centre in Durham (B, L, D).

    Day 6: Monday, August 3

    Today, we explore the magnificent Durham Cathedral, the final resting place of St. Cuthbert and a treasury of Anglo-Saxon and Norman faith. With a guided tour and time for personal prayer, we engage with the deep spiritual roots of northern Christianity. We join the cathedral choir for evensong, lifting our hearts in worship. Overnight accommodations are at the Premier Inn Durham City Centre in Durham (B, L, D).

    Day 7: Tuesday, August 4

    [Durham, Whitby, York]

    Today, we first journey to Whitby Abbey, perched above the sea and the site of the 664 Synod where Celtic and Roman Christian practices converged. Then we head to York, where we explore the stunning York Minster, with a guided visit exploring the crypt, stained glass, and Chapter House. We reflect on the the English Church’s role in uniting a kingdom. Overnight accommodations are in York (B, L, D).

    Day 8: Wednesday, August 5

    [York, Coventry, Cambridge]

    After breakfast, we travel south with a mid-day stop at the Coventry Cathedral. We arrive in Cambridge by evening and reflect together in the quiet beauty of a Cambridge College chapel. Overnight accommodations are at Madingley Hall in Cambridge (B, L, D).

    Day 9: Thursday, August 6

    [Cambridge]

    Today we explore Cambridge, where the English Reformation first took shape in minds and texts. At King’s College Chapel we enjoy a guided tour by a licensed member of the Society of Cambridge Tourist Guides. We’ll then walk the sites of the White Horse Inn circle, where reformers debated Luther’s works and explore scholars like Cranmer, Latimer, Ridley, and Tyndale. We close the day with evensong and quiet reflection. Overnight accommodations are at Madingley Hall in Cambridge (B, L, D).

    Day 10: Friday, August 7

    [Cambridge, Oxford]

    This morning we head to Oxford, home of scholars and saints. We visit Christ Church with its connections to Thomas Cranmer, John Wesley, and the Oxford Movement. We then explore the Martyrs’ Memorial highlighting Ridley, Latimer, andCranmer. We join together for evensong and reflect on the themes of the reformation martyrs as well as the seeds and cost of reform. Overnight accommodations are in Oxford (B, L, D).

    Day 11: Saturday, August 8

    [Oxford, Canterbury]

    Today we make our way to Canterbury. Our journey includes a pilgrim walk at St. Martin’s Church and Augustine’s Abbey. In the evening, we participate in evensong at Canterbury Cathedral, letting its sacred music wash over us as pilgrims of old. Overnight accommodations are at the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge in Canterbury (B, L, D).

    Day 12: Sunday, August 9

    [Canterbury]

    Today, we delve into Canterbury’s layered history where Roman mission meets Anglo-Saxon England, learning from historical figures such as Augustin and Becket. We explore themes of conflict, renewal, and faith with a guided scholar tour of the Canterbury Cathedral. In the afternoon, you are invited into a time of retreat or spiritual journaling, reflecting on what this pilgrimage has stirred in each of us. Overnight accommodations are at the Canterbury Cathedral Lodge in Canterbury (B, L, D).

    Day 13: Monday, August 10

    [Canterbury, London]

    After breakfast, we travel to London for a day rich in historical and spiritual insight. At the Tower of London and Westminster Abbey, we encounter the complexities of church, crown, and reform. We’ll then visit St. Martin in the Fields and end the day with evensong at majestic St. Paul’s Cathedral. You’ll also have the option to visit the Lambeth Palace Library. Overnight accommodations are in London (B, L, D).

    Day 14: Tuesday, August 11

    [London]

    We begin the day at Southwark Cathedral, exploring the Reformation’s witness amid city life. In the afternoon, we take time for retreat and group reflection, drawing together threads from our journey. The evening is on your own. Consider attending a Shakespearean play or visiting the British Museum. Overnight accommodations are in London (B, L, D).

    Day 15: Wednesday, August 12

    [Depart London]

    We gather one last time for closing Eucharist in a historic London church. We then head to the airport for our departure back to the US. With hearts full and spirits renewed, we say farewell to our fellow pilgrims and return home—carrying stories, insights, and inspiration from this sacred journey across time and tradition.

The Rev. Dr. Meredith Crigler

Meredith is an instructor of homiletics for Iona School of Ministry, Steward for Formation and Education for  Backstory Preaching, and Rector of  Trinity Episcopal Church in Baytown, TX. She was ordained into the Diocese of Texas in 2010 and calls the region home. Meredith is passionate about theological formation, mission, sabbath, preaching, biblical studies, and embracing discernment. She has traveled extensively across the United States and twenty-six countries/territories and, over the years, has facilitated and presented at numerous events, retreats, and pilgrimages, including where we will be journeying together on this pilgrimage.

She also serves as co-chair for the Episcopal Diocese of Texas Global Partnerships in Mission and on the board of the wider Global Episcopal Mission Network. She is a Certified Daring Way® Facilitator, Community Wellness Advocate with Living Compass, and offers spiritual direction through The Well at Trinity: Center for Healing and Wholeness.  She graduated with a doctorate (of ministry) in preaching focusing on preaching Holy Saturday. Meredith lives just east of Houston, TX, with her spouse Tim, dog Thurgood, and cat Pangur. Her core values are wholeness, wonder, authenticity, and grace. Meredith is fond of traveling, art, laughing, reading, stained glass, DIY projects, and conspiring with God.
