September 14-24, 2025

Together, Álainn Yarns and Sunlight Tours, have created a special wool & yarn focused trip just for you!

Enter into the story of Scotland fibers through the words and art of the women who are working hard to make it sustainable and beautiful. From cashmere goats to historical specialty patterns, we will explore this amazing land through the lens of those who are passionate about all things fiber! Plus, you’ll have time daily to work on your own fiber art projects.

Meet Our trip host

I'm Stephanie Showalter, owner of Álainn Yarns which is a small batch yarn dyeing company following the inspiration of travel. Fiber arts have fueled my passions for the last 14 years and is now my full time career. I want you to feel inspired when you see my photos and yarns, to fuel that wanderlust within you. Maybe you can’t escape life and travel right now, but maybe my yarns can whisk you away…

I'm excited for this trip to Scotland to follow some Scottish roots, but also to learn about Scotland's contribution to the fiber world, beyond kilts. I hope you'll join me on this Scottish fiber filled adventure!

Later this afternoon, we will do some private shopping and have a demonstration at Ginger Twist Studio. Owner Jess hand dyes her own yarns. Sip Prosecco, work on your project and shop at your leisure! Dinner out will follow. Overnight at Apex Grassmarket Hotel in Edinburgh. (B, L, D)

    DAY 5 Thursday, September 18:

After breakfast, leave Edinburgh to head up the eastern coast to St. Andrew’s. We will visit the St. Andrew’s Castle and have lunch before heading on to visit Balmerino Farm. Owner Rachel Crawford will teach us about her sustainable practices for raising sheep and maintaining habitat for the ecology of the area. Rachel’s sheep are being bred and raised for their soft and hardy wool. Rachel will have yarn from her unique sheep available for purchase. After our visit to the farm, we will head to Apex City Quay Hotel in Dundee. (B, L, D)
