Day 1: Saturday, March 8 – This morning we leave bright and early from the Fargo Airport to fly to Dallas where we will spend the day sightseeing and learning in the Dallas area. We will spend the night in Dallas. Overnight in Dallas. (L, D)

Day 2: Sunday, March 9 We will fly out of Dallas-Fort Worth to Belize City. We will get picked up at the airport by our hosts from Black Rock Lodge. It is a 2+ hour drive to the lodge, so we will pick up lunch along the way. Nestled in the rainforest along the banks of the Macal River, Black Rock Lodge is an eco-friendly retreat facility with cabins and an open-air restaurant. We can watch the aracari and the hummingbirds from our table. Our cabins each have their own bathrooms, veranda hammocks and unique views of the stunning natural surroundings. We will have dinner at the lodge and time to explore the area. Overnight at Black Rock Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Monday, March 10 – This morning as we awake to the sounds of the rainforest, and a delicious made-to-order fresh breakfast at the restaurant. After breakfast, we will take a sustainability tour of the lodge grounds to learn about their efforts to create an off-the-grid, energetically sustainable property. We will also hike through the Don Elijio Panti National Park which lies right across the river from the lodge. We will learn about the biodiversity of the area and the history of the park itself, which is named after Elijio Panti, revered as the last Mayan master healer in Belize. We will learn about the medicinal plants that Dr. Panti used to heal people. The hike highlight is reaching the grand overlook with spectacular views of the Black Rock valley and mountains. Supper will be at the lodge. After dark, we will head out for a night hike into the jungle to see the nocturnal creatures like tarantulas, snakes, the red-eyed tree frog and more. Overnight at Black Rock Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Tuesday, March 11 – After breakfast at the lodge this morning, we head out to the Lost City of Xunantunich. This was one of the largest cities ever built by the Mayan people. From the Lodge, we will travel 35 minutes to the Mayan village of San Jose Succotz, on the banks of the Mopan River. We will cross the river on board a small hand-cranked pontoon ferry to reach the ancient ruins. We will have lunch and a little time for shopping following our tour. After returning to the lodge, we will have time to take a dip in the pool, relax in a hammock, hike the area or float down the river (extra cost for a guide). Supper at the lodge. Overnight at Black Rock Lodge. (B, L, D)

Day 5: Wednesday, March 12 – This is our last morning to enjoy the delicious Black Rock breakfast. We head out after breakfast to make our way back to Belize City. On the way, we will visit the Belize Zoo to get up close to some of the animals of the area. We then continue to the water taxi in Belize City so we can make our way to the island community of San Pedro. We check in to our hotel at the Belize Budget Suites to get acquainted with the area. Dinner out. Overnight at Belize Budget Suites. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Thursday, March 13 – This morning after breakfast, we join our expert guides to head out on a boat ride to Caye Caulker, Hol Chan Reserve and Shark Ray Alley. We will see vibrant coral reefs, colorful fish, nurse sharks and sting rays. You can opt to snorkel or stay on the boat. We see first-hand the effects of rising ocean temperatures and more frequent storms on the Belize Barrier Reef. After our boat tour, we return to San Pedro for free time and dinner out. Overnight at Belize Budget Suites. (B, L, D)

Day 7: Friday, March 14 – Today, we jump on to our golf carts and head out to Secret Beach. With cafés that serve while you sit in the ocean to shops and beaches, Secret Beach is a fun place to spend the day. And the golf cart ride to get there is a part of the adventure. Dinner. Overnight at Belize Budget Suites. (B, L, D)

Day 8: Saturday, March 15 – We explore wildlife today. Our stops include the ACES Wildlife Rescue and the Eco Iguana Corner Foundation.  The rest of the day is free time for us to rest, shop, eat and enjoy the sights and sounds of San Pedro before heading home! (B, L, D)

Day 9: Sunday, March 16 – We will make our way back to Belize City by boat or plane and then catch our American Airlines flight home. We arrive in Fargo at 9:34 p.m. (B)
